A month has passed since we arrived home from Tokyo. I’ve been hesitant to write this final instalment of our adventure… partly because it officially marks the end and I knew looking back over the pictures would make my heart ache with longing to return. Some nights I find myself searching for affordable airfares (and finding some amazing prices) but in my heart I know we will return when the time is right. For now we are working towards saving every penny we have and working towards a very exciting adventure in 2015.
During my travels of Indonesia I fell deeply in love with the warm and tropical country. Japan was very different and yet just as equally beautiful. It was busy, bustling, full of a powerful culture, it was chilly, fast paced and welcoming. An incredibly strong passion took place in my heart after visiting these countries. I thought I could never love anything more than I love taking pictures but my heart has been stolen by the feeling of a plane ticket in my pocket, my belongings on my back and a new country to discover. When I take those first steps on the unfamiliar tarmac I imagine how my feet are leaving prints on this spot on the map forever. All I want to do for the rest of my life is travel and share my adventures with the world. I know that isn’t much of an ambition but I am full of curiosity and I want to explore every corner of this earth. I want to make friends from all over the world, I want to never plant my feet in one place for too long.
in the evenings we would take sunset walks and watch the people passing by.
a new years day adventure to the suburb shimokitazawa, i instantly fell in love with the cute streets and over-flowing little vintage stores.
everything in this shop was only 990 yen! equivalent to about $10.50! and I had to hold myself back from buying everything.
beautiful lanterns on the street.
the last six nights of our trip was spent staying in the popular suburb of shinjuku
dinner at cute little diners.
a day out in harajuku park, the new years festivities brought crowds of people leading towards the temple.
on the streets of harajuku.
beautiful little restaurants at night.
Martin bought us tickets to a Japanese punk gig and it was incredible. they are very different from Australian gigs, in Japan they start at 4pm and finish at 9pm. everyone is so friendly, and when the gig finishes the crowd pitches in to clean up the cups and mess. Not to mention the music was awesome!
catching the elevator to the top of a building just to see the view.
a day exploring the asakusa markets and buying trinkets for our family.
little market stalls.
pretty kimono’s.
the streets were filled with crowds of people.
exploring the food stalls and I was very happy to look but I definitely wasn’t game enough to try… I had a delicious baked potato instead!
each time we came home to our cosy hotel room we would wait for the trains at the crossing and I would snap some pictures as they fly past.
everywhere I looked there would be a beautiful moment taking place, it was so easy to capture beauty in Japan.
we spent one our last day exploring disneyland, the tickets were a very generous birthday gift from Martin’s family.
the sun setting on another perfect day, sadness creeping into my heart.
watching the sleepy sky on the plane ride home. I always feel so healthy, happy and full to the brim with contentment when abroad. I feel home.
