I have been dreaming of this shoot for months. Sometimes I like to challenge myself because I know my style is quite natural, photographing a beautiful girl lost within a beautiful environment. For this shoot I wanted to remove the element of a beautiful backdrop that I usually have in my pictures. I wanted to push myself and shoot something ‘high fashion’ that strips everything away and concentrates on the clothes.
Of course I had to do it in my own special way… I’m stubborn like that! I dislike shooting in studio for lots of reason. It’s not my strong point, I feel much less inspired when constricted to a box, basically I spend enough time inside and I love having the sun on my face and the wind in my hair.
And so I brainstormed ideas of how I could achieve that ‘studio look’ but while still out on location. Brightly coloured walls in the industrial area was my answer! A very unconventional studio location… but one that was perfect. I have collected these vintage pieces over the last two years hoping I would dream up an idea that would make them shine. My favourite is the tartan two piece, I’ve been holding onto that one forever!
Steph and Pip understood my idea perfectly and together with their help we brought my dream to life. We might have battled some serious wind and lots of truckers beeps (some even wanting their pictures taken too!) but we had so much fun pulling this idea together. How could you not have fun when dressed in bright, bold colours and shooting in the sunshine? I feel like I proved something to myself with this shoot, I’m not just a nature inspired/girl in a pretty dress photographer.
